The Drop-Knee Open 2009 has been won by Phil Le Neveu, who beat off a very close challenge from David Speller in small 2ft surf at Plemont beach.
At the end of the final the scores were tied for first and second, and a count-back on the judges score sheets was necessary to seperate the two. After a re-count it was Le Neveu's highest scoring ride, which featured a double 360, that just gave him the edge to take the title from Speller, who will now head off to the powerful waves of Portugal for six weeks, in preperation for the bodyboard division of European Surfing Championships, which take place in Jersey at the end of September.
Colin Crowther, whos highest scoring ride included a reverse 360, took 3rd spot, ahead of Steve Pinzari in 4th, who had earlier put in a great performance in the semi-finals to eliminate the pre-contest favourite and drop-knee specialist Andy de la Mare.
