Flow Ho Ho Flowrider Contest

Jersey’s Colin Crowther took to the flowrider recently at the Retallack Resort, Cornwall, for the British Bodyboard Club’s Flow Ho Ho contest.
Despite the freezing conditions the comp attracted a good entry with a mixture of flowrider savvy groms to seasoned competitive bodyboarders. The contest format gave each rider three 45 second rides to perform, with the best two rides counting for each heat.
Right from the start it was clear that the groms had the flowrider sussed, whilst the experienced bodyboarders were struggling to make even the most simple of manoeuvres without being thrown up and over the back of the wave.
As the day progressed though, whilst the groms continued to impress, especially the young Jack Mannifield who completed a triple spinner in one of his heats, the older crew gradually started to suss it out, and by the semi-finals Damian Prisk and Simon Thomas had got their reverses sussed and these combined with powerful gouges really started to pile the pressure on the groms.
In the final Prisk and Thomas went all out throwing new manoeuvres into the mix. Mannifield and Jonny Meloy, felt the pressure and started to blow manoeuvres ending up in the washing machine at the top of the wave. At the end of the day it was Thomas who took the honours with powerful spins and carves, mixed up with rolls, and even some DK thrown into the mix.
As for Colin, well he couldn’t suss the spins without being thrown into the washing machine, but did manage three consecutive rolls on one ride before bowing out in the quarter’s at the hands of Prisk and Meloy.
